The Guildford Club For Disabled started over 50 years ago, has about 40 members, mostly
elderly, (four in wheelchairs) and are from a radius of about 3 mile radius of Guildford.
Meetings are at Jacobs Well Village Hall every Thursday from 2pm to 4pm.  All helpers are
volunteers and transport members to the hall by minibus, helpers' own cars and one
ambulance.  There were two ambulances (supplied by the County Council) but unfortunately,
due to cut downs, the Council withdrew one.  This means the Club cannot at the moment
accept any more wheelchair-bound members.

Every week we provide tea, the opportunity to
socialise, and there is a programme of talks,
entertainment, visits to garden centres, etc.

There are services at Christmas and Easter, also a trolley of groceries for buying.

Funds are raised by Bring & Buy sales raffles, and recycling of Christmas cards with the
occasional donation.

You are very welcome to visit the Club any Thursday to see what we do.  It is wise to phone
first to check that the programme does not happen to include an away trip that day!

If interested please phone the Chairman (chairperson?):

Mrs Edna Furse, 7 Downside Road., Guildford Tel: 575414.

You'll be more than welcome.  I used to run the entertainment side until I had to give up to
concentrate on looking after my wife.

Cheers - Martin
