Bogus callers and traders specialise on preying on the vulnerable in the community
and will have no conscience about stealing all your money and leaving you destitute.
There are some golden tips in dealing with unsolicited callers.
1. Do not trade or agree to buy or have anything done by anyone who
cold calls you. Find a reputable trader if you need work carried out.
2. Look who is on your door step before you open the door via a door
viewer or window, if you do not know them treat them with suspicion.
3. Open the door on the security chain or open a window to speak to the person.
4. Listen to what they are saying and then ask yourself if it is really true? There are
so many different stories that con men and women use I would suggest you do
not believe anything you are being told until you can confirm it.
5. Check Identity of the caller and take a good look at any identity card shown. If in
doubt contact the company to verify he/she is what say. Do not rely on telephone
numbers given by the caller, look it up in the book and make them wait.
6. If in doubt tell them to go away and write to you for an appointment. If really
suspicious phone the police on 0845 125 2222 or 999.
7. Never never never let a stranger in your home.
